On January 31, 2023, Shopify announced the launch of “New Customer Accounts”.
In this article, we will explain the difference between "classic customer accounts" and new customer accounts, how to switch future logins to new customer accounts, and points to note when using new customer accounts.
What are New customer accounts?

Source: Now launched: New customer accounts
The new customer account is a new type of account that we just launched on January 31, 2023. There are two major differences from traditional customer accounts.
The first point is that you can log in without a password. For a new customer account, when you enter your e-mail address on the login screen, a one-time code will be sent to the entered e-mail address, and you can authenticate just by entering the one-time code. So you don't have to remember passwords.
Reducing the time and effort required to create an account is one of the effective measures against abandoned carts, so this is a welcome improvement.
In the article below, we introduce the causes of cart abandonment in the first place and the countermeasures against cart abandonment (cart abandonment measures) that can be done with Shopify. Please refer to us.

Second, you can access a new My Page dedicated to new customer accounts. On the new My Page, you can easily check the status of your order, repurchase products, and update your account information.

- Click Edit in the Account Experience section
- Select " New customer account " in " Select the version of customer account to use "
- Click "Save"
Points to note when switching (migrating) to a new customer account
As shown in the comparison table with the existing customer account, please note that Liquid cannot be customized on the My Page for the new customer account, so if you have customized your own My Page, it will not be inherited. . Also, since it is not compatible with apps, you will need to be careful when migrating if you have a subscription app that allows you to change the contract details on your My Page.
