Shopify provides numerous features for streamlining store operations and improving the customer experience. Among these, "customer accounts (My Page)" is an important element that enables customers to check their purchase history and manage their personal information. This article focuses on Shopify's customer accounts (My Page), explaining the differences between the two versions (new and legacy), how to customize them, and examples of useful apps.
ℹ️ The "legacy customer accounts" introduced in this article were deprecated on February 26, 2026. They can no longer be used for new stores, and support for existing stores will also be gradually scaled back. Please be cautious about switching to legacy customer accounts. What Are Customer Accounts (My Page)
Shopify's customer accounts are personal accounts that customers shopping at a Shopify store can create. With this account, customers can check their order history, manage personal information, reorder, and more. They are sometimes called "My Page" or "account page."
Types of Customer Accounts

Shopify currently has 2 types of customer accounts:
- New customer accounts (the latest version)
-
Legacy customer accounts (the older version)
Differences in Login Method
New Customer Accounts

Customer accounts don't require a password; you log in using a 6-digit one-time verification code sent to your email address.
Legacy Customer Accounts

Legacy customer accounts log in using a combination of email address and password.
Differences in Security
- New customer accounts: have anti-impersonation features, improving security
- Legacy customer accounts: weaker anti-impersonation measures
Differences in Features
New Customer Accounts
- Returns can be processed from the account page
- Customers can change their own email address
- Linked to the Shopify account page
- B2B on Shopify can only run with new customer accounts

Which Customer Account Type Should You Choose?
- New customer accounts are suited to stores that prioritize security, or new stores
