Checkout Blocks, an app for customizing Shopify's checkout page, was acquired by Shopify in 2024 and is now offered free to Plus-plan stores. This article explains the features of Checkout Blocks and walks through three practical implementation examples: a "year-end/New Year shipping delay notice," "pre-order product notes," and an "FAQ display."
What Is Checkout Blocks

Checkout Blocks is a native page-extension app from Shopify. With this app, stores on any plan can customize their thank-you page and order status page. Stores on the Plus plan can additionally extend the checkout page itself.
Checkout Blocks was acquired by Shopify in 2024, and its Starter plan, which used to cost $99/month, is now offered free to Plus-plan stores.
Then, at Shopify Editions Winter 2025 (December 11, 2024), thank-you page and order status page customization became available for free to stores on all plans.

Checkout Blocks Features
Free to Use
The best part is that all features are free to use. Stores considering customizing their thank-you page, order status page, or checkout page can use it at no additional cost.
No Coding Required

Checkout Blocks requires no programming knowledge — you can easily customize pages using the app's admin screen and the editor screen for each page.
A Rich Selection of Blocks

Another feature of Checkout Blocks is that it offers a large number of blocks (parts). Beyond simple text display, you can use various content blocks, such as accordions, images, and buttons, and display them on each page.
Example Blocks (Parts) Available in Checkout Blocks
- Accordion
- Banner
- Benefit
- Button
- Divider
- Heading
- Image
- Spacer
- Text
Dynamically Show or Hide Blocks
Checkout Blocks can dynamically show or hide blocks (parts) based on conditions.
For example, you can display a note to anyone who purchases a subscription or pre-order item, show recommended products only to customers who bought a specific product, or display a special coupon code only to customers whose order total exceeds a certain amount.
Things to Keep in Mind with Checkout Blocks
Checkout Page Customization Is Plus-Only
Only Plus stores can customize the checkout page.
This applies not just to Checkout Blocks but to other Shopify apps as well — customizing the checkout page itself requires a Plus plan subscription.
The App's Admin Screen Isn't Available in Japanese
Checkout Blocks' admin screen isn't available in Japanese. If English isn't your strong suit, it may take a little time to get used to Checkout Blocks. That said, the help pages are available in Japanese, so be sure to check them if you run into anything you're unsure about.

How to Use Checkout Blocks
Customizing the Thank-You Page with Checkout Blocks
Here we'll show how to customize the thank-you page to display a "notice about shipping delays due to year-end/New Year business operations."
(1) Install Checkout Blocks

(2) From the Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout
(3) In the settings section, click "Customize"

(4) From the select box in the top center of the screen, choose "Thank you"
(5) Click "Add app block"
(6) Select Checkout Blocks' "Static content"

(7) From Content type, choose the content you want to display
Since we wanted this to stand out a bit, we chose "warning banner" this time.
(8) Enter your desired text in Title and Description
This time, we entered the following:
【Title】
About Year-End/New Year Shipping
【Description】
Our store will be closed during the following period.
Closed: December 30, 2024 to January 5, 2025
Please note that we will not be handling shipping or inquiries during this period.
The final shipping date this year is noon on December 29, 2024. Orders placed after December 29 will be shipped in order starting January 6, 2025, once we reopen.

Customizing the Order Status Page with Checkout Blocks
Here we'll show how to customize the order status page to display "notes about pre-order items when a customer purchases a pre-order product."
* The pre-order feature referenced here assumes the use of "RuffRuff 予約販売," a Shopify app popular with Japanese merchants.
Step 1. Create a Block
(1) Install Checkout Blocks

(2) Open the Checkout Blocks app and click "Blocks" in the left menu
(3) Click "Create block"

(4) Click "Dynamic content"
Here we want to show or hide content dynamically based on whether the order includes a pre-order item, so we'll use "Dynamic content."

(5) From the list of templates, select "Blank template"

(6) Enter any name in Block name
This is only used for management within Checkout Blocks and won't be shown to customers.

(7) Configure the content you want to display for pre-orders
Here we used a Banner content block to create content about "pre-order notes."

(8) In Display rules, set the display conditions for the banner content configured in (7)
Here, we wanted the condition to be based on whether the order includes a "pre-order item" from the RuffRuff 予約販売 app, so we set the condition to display when "the line item property key _PreOrderRuleId is present in at least one line item."
(9) Click "Save"

(10) After saving, change the Status to "Active"

(11) Change the App block ID of the block you created and make a note of the ID
In this case, the App block ID is "0."
Step 2. Add the Created Block to the Order Status Page

(12) From the Shopify admin, go to Settings > Checkout
(13) In the settings section, click "Customize"

(14) From the select box in the top center of the screen, choose "Order status"
(15) Click "Add app block"
(16) Select Checkout Blocks' "Dynamic content"

(17) Select the App block ID you noted in step (10)
(18) Click "Save"
That completes the setup.

When you access the checkout page, an "FAQ" is displayed as shown above.
In Closing
