How to Set Up Google Search Console for Shopify

Note: This article covers setup instructions that depend specifically on Onamae.com's DNS panel, a domain registrar specific to the Japanese market. The information below will not be directly relevant if you are not selling in Japan or do not use this Japan-specific service.

This article introduces how to set up Google Search Console. We recommend setting up Search Console by referring to this article before launching your Shopify site.

* This article is written for those who have registered their domain through Onamae.com, but the setup method should be similar for other domain services, so please use it as a reference.

What is Google Search Console?

Google Search Console is a free tool that lets you see your ranking for each keyword, along with the number of times your pages have been shown and the number of clicks they've received.

By using Search Console, you can check and analyze your website's indexing status, click counts, errors, search performance, and more, helping with your site's SEO efforts.

How to set up Google Search Console

Step 1. Create a new property and copy the TXT record

Go to Search Console and click "Add property"

Go to Onamae.com and click "DNS Settings / Forwarding Settings" in the left menu. Check the domain you want to set up and click "Next."

Using the value you copied in the previous chapter, add a new TXT record.

Step 3. Verify ownership

Click "Verify" in the pop-up displayed in step 1.

* It may take some time for the DNS records configured at Onamae.com to propagate. If an error is displayed, please wait a few hours and try again.

Recommended Search Console setting: Submit a sitemap

Submitting a sitemap to Search Console allows Google's crawlers to efficiently discover and index the pages on your website. If you want to increase your visibility in search results and drive more organic traffic, please be sure to submit a sitemap.

The sitemap URL for your Shopify site is "https://yourdomain/sitemap.xml".

How to submit a sitemap in Search Console

Go to Search Console and click "Sitemaps" in the left menu.
