AnyGift, a service for adding e-gifting to e-commerce sites, is provided by the Japanese company AnyReach Inc. By using AnyGift, you can add e-gift functionality to your e-commerce site in as little as a single day. It has been adopted by more than 700 companies, and is used across a wide range of industries and business sizes, including L'OCCITANE, Yoshinoya, and Kanebo.
Companies that have adopted AnyGift have reported results such as up to a 9x increase in repeat purchase rate among customers who bought an e-gift even once.
Let's take a detailed look at what these sales-boosting e-gifts are, and what features and capabilities AnyGift offers.
The blog article below introduces e-gift apps other than AnyGift. Use it as a reference when choosing an e-gift app.
What Are E-Gifts / Digital Gifts?
E-gifts, or digital gifts, are a new form of gifting where you purchase a product online and it's delivered to the recipient via LINE or social media. LINE's own e-gift service, "LINE Gift," is especially well known, and many people have likely used it.
With traditional gift purchases, you needed to know the recipient's address, but with e-gifts, the recipient enters their own address, so the sender can send a gift without ever knowing it.
This convenience of being able to send a gift whenever you want has caught on, with demand growing especially among people in their 20s. Reference: Survey on Digital Gifts (MMD Labo)
E-gifts can also include a digital message card, making it easy to convey everyday gratitude or feelings—another reason they're popular. Depending on the service, there are also catalog-gift formats that let the recipient choose their own product, removing the need to guess the recipient's preferences.
In this way, e-gifts offer convenient features for both the sender and the recipient, creating new purchasing opportunities for e-commerce sites.
Features of AnyGift
AnyGift is a service that makes it easy to add e-gift functionality to an e-commerce site, and it has three main features.
The first is how quickly it can be set up—in as little as a single day. On Shopify, all you need to do is install the dedicated Shopify app and complete initial setup, and you can start selling e-gifts.
The second is its rich customization capabilities. Digital message cards can use your company's own design, and you can freely set the message and images. You can even customize the domain and email address used for the gift-receiving URL to match your brand.
The third is features designed with the recipient in mind, such as a catalog-gift format that lets recipients choose their own product, and the ability to specify a delivery date and time.
In this way, the service is appealing not only to store owners, but also to gift senders and recipients, and can be effective for tapping into new customer segments.
Main Features of AnyGift
Here are some of AnyGift's standout features.
Digital message card feature
Buyers can freely set images and messages, and can also use their company's own design. This lets the sender convey their feelings in a warm, personal way.
Catalog gift feature
Store owners can put together a catalog combining their own products, and recipients can choose whichever product they like from it. Because it's an online catalog, products can also be swapped out in real time. *Available on the EXPERT plan and above
Reminder email feature
Automatically sends a reminder email to recipients so they don't forget to claim their gift.
Multiple-recipient e-gift feature
Lets you send gifts to multiple recipients in a single transaction, making it useful for a variety of purposes such as return gifts, seasonal gifts, or employee benefits. *Available on the EXPERT plan and above
There are many other features as well, so check the official AnyGift website if you're interested.
Benefits of Using AnyGift on Shopify
Here are three benefits of using AnyGift on your Shopify store.
You can expect a boost in sales
E-gifts can be expected to boost store sales. In fact, published data shows sales increasing by 102%-107% after adopting AnyGift. This effect tends to grow larger three months and six months after adoption, rather than in the first month. That's because customers become more familiar with the e-gift feature over time, naturally increasing how often they use it.
It helps you acquire new customers
According to AnyGift's research, gift recipients frequently convert into new customers, with results showing up to 40% becoming new customers. This channel also tends to produce a higher customer lifetime value (LTV) compared to acquisition through ads or social media. That's because receiving a gift from a friend or acquaintance is a positive experience that builds trust in the brand.
It improves the quality of the customer experience
Senders can give a gift without knowing the recipient's address, and recipients can specify a delivery date and time—convenient features for both sides. The catalog gift feature also lets recipients choose a product they actually like, creating a more satisfying gifting experience.
This kind of improvement in customer experience quality can strengthen your brand image and lead to repeat purchases and new customers gained through word of mouth.

Approve the subscription. No charge is incurred at this step.

Once installation is complete, the initial setup steps will be displayed.
[Shopify] Initial Setup for AnyGift
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete initial setup. Each item includes an explanation, along with a button that takes you directly to the relevant setting.
Here's an explanation of how to operate each item and things to watch out for.

STEP 1. Set which products have e-gifting enabled, and the page where the purchase-method options are shown
Choose the products you want to make available as e-gifts. You can set all products as e-gifts, or only specific products.

STEP 2. Embed the app via the theme's "Customize" screen
Clicking "Configure STEP 2" opens the customization screen. Turn on the AnyGift toggle switch, then click "Save."

STEP 3. Select the order management system (OMS) you're currently using
Select the OMS you use. If you don't use one, select "Manually manage orders and fulfillment."

STEP 4. Set shipping rates for e-gifts
Since the buyer doesn't know the recipient's address for an e-gift, normal shipping-rate display isn't possible. Instead, set a shipping rate specifically for e-gifts. You can set a flat rate or a rate per product.

STEP 5. [For e-gift recipients] Create the email text sent when a product ships
Write the email that will be sent to the gift recipient when the product ships. Adjust the content to match the products or services you offer. If you're not comfortable with code, don't force it—reach out to support instead.

STEP 6. [For e-gift buyers] Customize the email text sent at purchase
Customize the email text sent when a purchase is made. You can check detailed setup instructions by clicking "View email customization details."

If you forget this setting, it can lead to a serious issue where the buyer is able to see the recipient's address. Be sure to configure it.
STEP 7. [For buyers making a normal purchase where the billing address differs from the shipping address] Customize the order confirmation screen
Enabling "Promote e-gift awareness on the order confirmation page" displays an e-gift notice on the order confirmation screen, helping raise awareness of the e-gift option.

STEP 8. Place a test e-gift order
Test whether the purchase completes successfully, whether the URL is displayed, and whether it's properly integrated with your OMS. It's also a good idea to place another test order after STEP 11. We'll cover the test-order steps at the end of this section.
STEP 9. Confirm that the "shipping address" is hidden on the account page for e-gift orders
This is normally changed automatically when you install AnyGift, but if you've customized your account page yourself, it may not have been changed correctly. You can check the details by clicking "View details on hiding the shipping address on the account page."

STEP 10. Configure settings for converting gift recipients into customers
Displays an opt-in checkbox for the email newsletter to gift recipients. If your store does email marketing, be sure to enable this.

STEP 11. Add the AnyGift UI to the order confirmation page
Display the gift-sharing URL on the order confirmation page.
In the admin's side menu, click "Settings," then select "Checkout." Click "Customize" under the Checkout "Settings."

The checkout customization screen opens, showing a list of apps. Click the "+" next to AnyGift's "egift-thankyou-ui." Select "Thank you" as the destination to add it to.

The Thank You page will be displayed—click "Save." At this point, the sharing link won't yet appear on the page. We'll check for it in the test below.

Once all settings are complete, we recommend placing another test order.
Open your online store. Check whether an e-gift button appears below the purchase button on the product page.

Clicking the button lets you enter a message and the sender's name. Click "Add to cart."

The item has been added to the cart—proceed to checkout.

Check whether the e-gift shipping fee has been added.

For payment, either place a test order or cancel the order immediately after placing it. See the article below for how to place a test order.
The Thank You page will display the e-gift recipient URL. The buyer (the gift sender) shares this URL with the recipient.

That completes initial setup.
How to Restrict Payment Methods for AnyGift E-Gift Orders
If you want to restrict payment methods for e-gift orders (for example, limiting them to credit card only), you can do so using the "RuffRuff Order Limits" app.
How to Configure RuffRuff Order Limits

(1) Create a new payment rule in RuffRuff Order Limits
(2) Configure the following items, then save
- Title: Any rule name you like
- Payment methods: Add the payment methods you want to hide for e-gift orders
- Orders: Select specific orders
- Cart attribute: Enter "eGift payment order" as the key, and "true" as the value
With this setting, the specified payment methods will only be hidden for e-gift orders. This lets you apply an effective restriction in cases where you want to ensure reliable payment.
