[Resolved] Regarding the Issue of Alert Messages Not Displaying | RuffRuff Order Limits

Tsun Inc.

Update, August 14, 2025

We have received confirmation from Shopify that the fix has been completed.
We have also confirmed that the issue has been resolved in several environments we own.

If your store had checked "Display alert messages as a pop-up" as a temporary workaround, please uncheck it and confirm that alert messages now display correctly in the normal display mode.

Update

Shopify is aware of this issue and is currently working on a fix. The specific timing of the fix is not yet determined, but we will notify you promptly of any progress. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience until Shopify resolves this issue.

Thank you very much for your continued patronage.

Issue

Currently, with RuffRuff Order Limits, an issue is occurring where "the app's alert message does not display, displays as null, or displays as a cart error on some Shopify themes."

* Please be assured that the restriction functionality and the display of alert messages on the checkout page are working correctly.

Please also note that this issue may occur not only with our app but also with other purchase-restriction apps that display alert messages, or with Shopify's own features.

Cause

This issue is caused by a system change on Shopify's side.

Previously, error messages sent via the app were passed to both description and message , but due to this change, values are now only passed to message .

As a result, this issue occurs on Shopify themes that only display messages from the description value.

Requested Temporary Workaround

We apologize for the inconvenience, but please make the following configuration change.

  1. Open the app's settings page.
  2. Check "Display alert messages as a pop-up."

With this setting enabled, the app can display alert messages using its own custom UI.

* Please note, however, that this setting does not resolve the issue of the message displaying as a cart error.

Future Response

Our response will differ depending on whether this change from Shopify is temporary or permanent.

We will first inquire with Shopify about the intent behind this change, and based on the outcome, we will determine our approach toward a fundamental resolution.

We apologize for the inconvenience and ask for your patience until this matter is resolved.
