Enabling Social Sign-In on Shopify | How to Set Up Google Login and Facebook Login

Tsunライターチーム

Since August 13, 2025, Shopify stores have had access to social sign-in as a native feature. This lets customers sign up for and log into your shop easily using their Google or Facebook account.

This article clearly explains the specifications of Shopify's native social sign-in feature and the setup steps for Google and Facebook login.

Reference Information

This article is based on official information from the Shopify Help Center as of August 13, 2025, and reflects what we actually tried in a test environment. We accept no responsibility whatsoever for any subsequent specification changes, malfunctions, or operational errors. Before implementing and configuring this feature, be sure to check the latest official documentation (Shopify, Google Cloud, and Meta), and proceed at your own discretion and responsibility.

What Is Social Sign-In?

Social login (social sign-in) is a mechanism that lets users log into or register on a different website or app using their existing social/identity provider account information, such as Facebook, Google, Twitter, or Apple. Users don't need to create a new username and password, and authentication is completed with a simple authorization step.

On August 13, 2025, Shopify released social sign-in as a native feature.

Specifications of Shopify's Native Social Sign-In

Only Available with Customer Accounts

Shopify's native social sign-in feature is only supported with the "new customer accounts." Please note that it is not supported with the legacy customer accounts.

For more on the differences between the types of customer accounts, please also refer to the blog article below.

Only Google and Facebook Can Be Configured

Shopify's native social sign-in feature currently only supports Google and Facebook.

Only the Email Address Can Be Synced for Customer Information

Only the email address is synced during social sign-in.

For this reason, customers will need to separately enter information such as their name and address.

The Login Screen Display Changes Depending on How Many Social Sign-In Options Are Enabled

Shopify's native social sign-in feature lets you configure Google and Facebook, but the buttons shown on the login screen differ depending on whether only Google is enabled, only Facebook is enabled, or both are enabled.

Conclusion

This article walked through the process of setting up social sign-in with Google and Facebook, available with Shopify's new customer accounts.

The overall flow runs from starting the connection in the admin, to registering the authorized JavaScript origins/redirect URL (URI) on each platform's side, obtaining and pasting the client ID/client secret or app ID/app secret, verifying it works in preview, and finally switching it "On" in your production environment.

Once the setup is complete, be sure to verify that authentication works properly in your production environment as well.
