What Is the Shopify App "Gift Options Plus"?

Gift Options Plus is a Shopify app that lets you add gift wrapping, noshi (traditional Japanese decorative wrapping paper used for gifts), message cards, and recipient address/delivery date specification to your product pages and cart. Whatever the buyer selects is recorded directly on the Shopify order and can also be reflected in order tags and order notes, so there's a clear path all the way through to shipping. It installs without editing any theme code, and the admin and support are in Japanese. In August 2026, it earned Shopify's official "Built for Shopify" quality certification. For any store that currently handles wrapping or noshi requests only through customer inquiries, this app is a first step toward accepting them directly on the storefront.
Gift Options Plus's features
Feature 1: No coding required, set up in 3 steps
Gift Options Plus handles gift options in units called "widgets." A widget is a single set of gift-option input fields that gets displayed on a product page or the cart.
Following the "Easy Setup Guide" on the app's "Setup" page, display starts working in three steps: create a widget, publish it, and enable the app embed in the theme editor. You don't need to edit any theme code. Even if you stop partway through setup, you can pick up right where you left off next time. If you get stuck, Japanese-language support is available to help with setup.
Feature 2: A display that blends naturally with your store's theme

The widget's color scheme automatically reads your store theme's settings and blends in — no special configuration needed. The layout of options automatically switches between side-by-side and stacked depending on the width of the space it's placed in, so it won't break even in a narrow area.
If you want to adjust the text color, background color, button color, font size, option image size, or spacing, you can do so from the theme editor — again without touching any code. Since Shopify has many different themes that update frequently, it's difficult to match every single one perfectly, but the widget is designed to display naturally on most themes.
Feature 3: Supports noshi and other Japanese gift-giving customs

You can accept noshi, the accompanying inscription text (omotegaki), and name entry as gift options. Noshi is a decorative paper wrapper traditionally used in Japan for formal gifts, printed with an inscription describing the occasion and the giver's name. Selecting a noshi preset brings up entry fields for the inscription text, name entry, and noshi wrapping style, and you can display only the fields you need. All of these are free-text fields: the inscription field shows example entries such as "Celebration," "Return Gift," "Thanks," "Ochugen (Mid-Year Gift)," and "Oseibo (Year-End Gift)," while the wrapping-style field guides the buyer to enter either "inner noshi" or "outer noshi." Joint names can also be entered as-is in the name field.
Since these are just regular text-based options, your store can freely change the wording. You can also combine wrapping, noshi, and a message card into a single widget so buyers can select everything at once.
Where an option is shown can be narrowed down by market (Shopify's sales-region setting) or customer tag (a membership category). This lets you do things like showing noshi and other Japan-oriented options only to buyers in the Japan market.
Feature 4: The buyer's selections flow straight into fulfillment

Whatever the buyer selects in a widget is recorded directly on the Shopify order. Rather than being stored separately within the app, selections made on the product page are written to the order's line items, and selections made in the cart or at checkout are written to the "Additional details" section of the order details screen. This means you can check the gift specifications right from your usual order management screen.
You can also choose to have the app append notes to the order and automatically add order tags. Order notes let you "read" the details of each individual order, while order tags let you "sort" gift orders in bulk. For example, tagging the noshi widget with "Noshi" and the wrapping widget with "Wrapping" separately makes it easier to prevent oversights or mis-shipments during fulfillment. For stores using an order management system, there's also a setting to export delivery data in a format that's easy to import. This is covered later in "Manage gift orders centrally with order tags, order notes, and order-management-system export."
Feature 5: Earned Shopify's official "Built for Shopify" quality certification

"Built for Shopify" is a quality certification that Shopify defines for apps on the App Store. It's reviewed on three fronts — performance, design, and integration quality — covering the app's impact on store load speed, the design and usability of its admin interface, and its integration with Shopify's features. Apps that meet the standard display a certification badge on their App Store listing page.
Gift Options Plus earned this certification in August 2026. Certification isn't a one-time achievement; the app is required to keep meeting the standard afterward as well. Consider it one benchmark of quality when choosing an app.
Recommended for these kinds of businesses and stores
This app is well suited to stores like the following:
- Stores that get requests for wrapping, noshi, or message cards but have no way to accept them on the storefront, so they currently handle them only through customer inquiries
- Food, alcohol, and general-merchandise stores where seasonal gift demand — ochugen, oseibo, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day, and the like — directly drives sales
- Stores that want to start simple with gift options first, then later expand into showing different options by product or by buyer as needed
- Stores that also sell to overseas buyers and want to show gift options in both Japanese and English
Gift Options Plus's recommended features
Feature 1: Show on the product page, cart, and checkout, with per-product control
You can turn a widget on or off independently for the product page, cart page, and checkout page. Displaying on the checkout page is available on Shopify Plus stores. Which products it appears on can be narrowed down by product, collection, or product tag, and you can specify either "show on this product" or "don't show on this product."
You can also control "who sees it" using market and customer tags. This lets you do things like showing wrapping only on gift-oriented products, or showing special options only to certain members. Both the admin and the widget support Japanese and English, and you can register translated text for the widget's display copy per language from the app's admin screen.
Feature 2: A wide range of formats for gift wrapping, noshi, and message cards
You can choose the input format for an option from checkboxes, a dropdown, text input, and more. You can also combine, say, a paid wrapping option with a free message card in the same widget.
A widget can be displayed in either of two formats — "standard" or "modal" — letting you decide whether it's always shown on the page or opens when a button is pressed, depending on your needs. In standard format, you can also choose a radio-card display that lays out the choices as cards. This is covered later in "Radio-card display, and a cart display that combines the line item into a single line."
Feature 3: Manage gift orders centrally with order tags, order notes, and order-management-system export
In addition to the order tags and order notes covered in "The buyer's selections flow straight into fulfillment," the app also supports writing to order metafields (extra data fields attached to an order). These can be read from the Shopify admin under names like "GOP Delivery Address" (GOP being short for Gift Options Plus), so they can also be used as conditions in Shopify Flow (Shopify's automation feature).
Delivery date/time data has a setting to export it in a format that's easy to import into Next Engine, LOGILESS, GoQSystem, and Shippinoh, automatically formatting the date notation and field names to match each destination.
*This is not an officially endorsed integration with any of these companies — it simply supports exporting in a format each service can import.
Feature 4: Complete gift orders with recipient address and delivery date specification

You can add, as a widget, a field for entering the recipient's address along with a field for choosing a desired delivery date and time slot from a calendar. The design is simple: one delivery address per order, specifying a single recipient. Time slots come with built-in support for Yamato Transport's slots, and you can also register custom time slots to match Sagawa Express or your own in-house delivery.
You can configure things like how many days out from today buyers can choose, days of the week when delivery isn't available, exclusion of specific dates, and whether entering a date is required, all to match how your store operates. The address field is made up of name, postal code, address, and phone number, with only the building name/room number field being optional. The delivery feature is available on the Standard plan and above.
Feature 5: Radio-card display, and a cart display that combines the line item into a single line

With the radio-card display, choices such as wrapping types are laid out as cards, so buyers can choose at a glance.
On the cart screen, you can choose between two display methods: "split line items," where an option becomes a separate line item from the product, and "combine into one line," where it's merged into the product's row. With "combine into one line," the product and its options are always treated as a set, so buyers can't remove just one of them or end up with mismatched quantities. The price of a paid wrapping option is shown added into the product's row.

How to set up Gift Options Plus
Step 1: Install from the Shopify App Store and choose a plan
From the Gift Options Plus page on the Shopify App Store, select "Install" and approve it following the prompts in your admin. Next, choose a plan. Every plan comes with a 7-day free trial.
Step 2: Create a widget

On the "Manage widgets" page, select "Add widget" and enter a name for it. You can build it from one of three starting points: a "noshi" preset, a "message card" preset, or "start from scratch." Next, register the options you want to accept — such as wrapping, noshi, or message cards — and set the input format and price for each. Following the "Easy Setup Guide" on the "Setup" page, you can stop partway through and pick up right where you left off next time.
Step 3: Publish the widget
Once you've checked the content, set the widget's "Status" to "Published." You can switch between published and unpublished at any time, so you could keep a widget unpublished while it's still being prepared and publish it only during a seasonal gift period.
Step 4: Enable the app embed in the theme editor

Open the theme editor and enable Gift Options Plus under app embeds. As noted in the admin's own guidance, the gift options get added automatically, so no code editing is needed. Once enabled, any published widgets will appear on your product pages and cart.
Step 5: Check the order screen with a test order
Place a test order actually selecting gift options, then check the details on the Shopify order management screen. Options selected on the product page appear in the order's line items, and options selected in the cart appear under "Additional details" — and if configured, they're also reflected in order tags and order notes. Once you've confirmed this, you're all set.
The story and background behind developing the app
What led to developing this app?
Gift Options Plus was released in May 2021. It was developed because we couldn't find a gift-options app that offered support in Japanese. On top of that, apps from overseas had no concept of words like "noshi" or "omotegaki" (the inscription text on noshi), so we couldn't picture them handling ochugen or oseibo orders.
We decided to first build an app with quality good enough to support in Japanese, and to tackle noshi-specific functionality after that. That's why, from the very start, we built in the customizability to accept a wide range of options, not just gift wrapping and message cards.
What has stood out most while developing the app
What's stood out most while running this app is just how much the way gift options are presented and operated varies from store to store. We've had requests to show choices as radio buttons, to restrict wrapping to a single product only, and conversely to allow wrapping multiple products together. We've also learned through support conversations that many stores use delivery date specification alongside gift options.
Even though we'd committed to building in extensibility, once we got as far as introducing the "widget" as a unit, we did wonder for a while whether we'd over-engineered it. That doubt disappeared once we managed to fit recipient address/delivery date specification into that same widget framework, and once we were able to add the noshi and message card presets.
What we put the most effort into when developing the app
What we put the most effort into is giving shape to needs that merchants haven't clearly put into words yet. We now consider the quality bar we set when we first launched to be a baseline we must maintain. The radio-card display, for example, gave shape to something underneath the request "I want to show choices as radio buttons" — what merchants actually wanted was to lay out wrapping types with images so buyers could compare them at a glance.
Another driving force is Shopify's own updates. It's not uncommon for something that wasn't possible before to become possible with a new mechanism, and the "combine into one line" cart display and delivery date selection at checkout are both features we built by taking advantage of that. So when we regularly check Shopify's update announcements, we're not just checking for impact — we're also reading them with an eye toward whether any new mechanism could solve a problem we hadn't been able to solve before.
To maintain this baseline quality, we keep up daily automated checks of the production environment, investigate the impact of Shopify updates, and do a final visual check by human eyes. We believe earning the Built for Shopify certification in August 2026 was the result of this kind of accumulated daily effort.
What's next for the app, and what we want to take on
Going forward, we want to move in two directions. One is making the experience of giving a gift more convenient for everyone involved — the buyer, the merchant, and the fulfillment team. The other is deepening our support for gift-giving customs both in Japan and overseas.
We'll share specific features once they're ready for you to use. For now, we'll keep making steady improvements so that day-to-day operations get a little easier for the stores already using the app.
Other frequently asked questions
Is inquiry or onboarding support available?
We provide support in Japanese. For setup questions or configuration questions, please reach out via the contact form on the Shopify App Store listing page, or through "Contact support" inside the app. The engineers who develop the app answer directly. If something isn't working — for example, if it's unclear where to place things given your theme's structure — please don't hesitate to reach out.
Can I change plans partway through?
Yes. You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time from the app's "App settings" > "Plan." If you'd like to switch to a lower plan, please contact support.
Are there any Shopify apps or services it can integrate with?
Delivery date/time data can be exported in a format that's easy to import into Next Engine, LOGILESS, GoQSystem, and Shippinoh. This isn't an official integration with any of these companies — it's export in a format each service can import. With other order management systems, delivery data can also be retrieved from "Additional details" (order attributes), order metafields, or order tags. Information written to the order can also be used in Shopify Flow conditional branches, or from CSV export, picking list, or shipping label printing apps.
Are there any case studies?
We've published a case study about "Bokumo Wine" (operated by Nitasu Co., Ltd.), an online store specializing in New Zealand wine. Facing the challenge that wrapping requests existed but couldn't be specified on the site — and so never turned into orders — the store adopted the app because it valued being able to specify options at the cart level. For details, please see this case study article.
Beyond that, the app is also used by stores of different sizes and industries, including educational-toy retailers and specialty Chinese tea shops. You can see a list of case studies on the Gift Options Plus introduction page.
In closing
Gift options aren't just a nice-to-have feature. Some orders only happen because a buyer was able to specify something on the spot. Buyers rarely tell a store directly, "I wish you offered gift options." That's exactly why it's worth the store taking the initiative — thinking "buyers might appreciate an option like this" and trying it out — since that's often the only way to find out.
Start small and see how it goes. Every plan of Gift Options Plus comes with a 7-day free trial. For more details, please see the listing page on the Shopify App Store.
