We have added “Product-specific bundle limits” to RuffRuff Order Limits. You can set bundle conditions for each product or variant, such as “purchase alone only” or “requires a selected product.”

Key points
- You can choose one of 7 bundle conditions for each product or variant
- You can set a product message shown on the product page and an alert message shown in the cart and at checkout
- If you do not get started with the feature, your existing “Bundle rules” and storefront behavior do not change
Types of bundle limits
“Product-specific bundle limits” has been added to “Bundle limits.” It is separate from “Bundle rules,” which apply to a group of items selected by tags or collections. You can use both.
| Feature | Best for |
|---|---|
| Product-specific bundle limits (new) | When you want to set different bundle conditions for each product |
| Bundle rules | When you want to apply the same conditions to a group of items selected by tags, collections, or other criteria |
Bundle conditions you can set
Choose one of the following 7 conditions for each product.
| Restriction | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Purchase alone only | Cannot be purchased together with other products |
| Bundle with variants of the same product only | Can be purchased only together with other variants of the same product |
| Bundle with products from the same vendor only | Can be purchased only together with products from the same vendor |
| Cannot purchase alone | Cannot be purchased unless it is bundled with other products |
| Bundle with selected products only | Can be purchased alone or together with selected products. Cannot be bundled with products that are not selected |
| Cannot bundle with selected products | Cannot be purchased together with selected products |
| Requires a selected product | Cannot be purchased unless at least one of the selected products is also purchased |
For the last 3 conditions, you select partner items. You can select up to 50 partner items in total, counting products and variants together.
Settings to know first
- Status: Each product is either “Enabled,” “Disabled,” or “Not set.” Bundle conditions apply only to products that are “Enabled”
- Restriction method: For each variant, you can choose “Use common setting,” “Use individual setting,” or “No restriction.” “Use common setting” inherits the product’s setting, and “Use individual setting” applies a different condition to that variant only. “No restriction” excludes that variant from the restriction
- Excluded items: Specify items such as gift wrapping or free gifts. They are not counted in the checks, and they cannot satisfy another item’s required partner. You can specify up to 50 items in total, counting products and variants together
How to use
- Open “Bundle limits › Product-specific bundle limits” and select “Get started.” The feature is disabled right after initialization
- Open “Settings” and enable “Product-specific bundle limits”
- In the list, select a product, set its status to “Enabled,” and choose a “Restriction.” For conditions that need partner items, specify them with “Select”
- To change the condition for each variant, open “Edit variant restrictions” and choose a “Restriction method”
- Select “Save changes”
Finding products in the list
In the product list, you can search products and filter by collection, product status, product tag, and limit settings (Configured, Enabled, Disabled, or Not configured).
Message display
For each restriction, you can set 2 types of messages. Default text is provided, so you can also use it as is.
| Message | Where it is shown |
|---|---|
| Product message | Product page |
| Alert message | Cart or checkout, when the restriction is violated |
In alert messages, you can insert the product name with “{{itemName}}.” You can set messages for each language from “Translate” in “Settings.”
“Cannot purchase alone” and “Requires a selected product” cannot be checked while the cart is being changed. These 2 conditions are checked only at checkout.
Eligible stores
- Eligible: Stores on the Light plan or the Full plan
- Not eligible: Stores without a paid plan. You can enter and save the settings, but you cannot enable the feature
- Not covered by the restriction: Products and variants specified as excluded items, and variants set to “No restriction”
Impact on existing settings
Your existing “Bundle rules” and their behavior do not change. “Product-specific bundle limits” does not apply to purchases until you get started and enable it.
Action required from merchants
This change is added automatically. No setting changes are required.
To use product-specific bundle limits, follow the steps in “How to use.” After setting them up, add a test product to the cart and check the product page and checkout display.
For details on the settings, see the help articles About Product-Specific Bundle Limits and Product-Specific Bundle Limits: Settings.
